چکیده

Abstract Objective It is unclear to what degree acutely violating bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) measurement assumptions will alter the predicted percent fat mass (%FM) and whether this differs by sex or body index (BMI). Methods %FM was assessed under control, dehydration, exercise, water, food intake non-voided bladder conditions with three BIA devices (Tanita: BC-418, TBF-314, & Omron HBF-306CN) for men ( n = 23, age: 24.0 ± 5.2 years old) women 17, 22.5 3.4 separately. Results For all devices, there were no differences in values between control other (− 1.9 0.4%, p > 0.05). Across five conditions, 97% of tests returned within 5% (2 tests), 86% 2% despite an assumption. The errors greatest dehydration more likely have a difference greater than using hand-to-foot device (Tanita TBF-314: 59% versus 9%). There when examined BMI (overweight/obesity: − 2.8 0.1% normal weight: 1.7 0.5%; BMI*trial, 0.99). Conclusion estimates similar preliminary across range different BMIs. minor variations are smaller would be expected day-to-day variability weight loss intervention but may larger men.

Body fat measurement by bioelectrical impedance and air displacement plethysmography: a cross-validation study to design bioelectrical impedance equations in Mexican adults

BACKGROUND The study of body composition in specific populations by techniques such as bio-impedance analysis (BIA) requires validation based on standard reference methods. The aim of this study was to develop and cross-validate a predictive equation for bioelectrical impedance using air displacement plethysmography (ADP) as standard method to measure body composition in Mexican adult men and w...

Feasibility of Bioelectrical Impedance Spectroscopy Measurement before and after Thoracentesis

BACKGROUND Bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy is applied to measure changes in tissue composition. The aim of this study was to evaluate its feasibility in measuring the fluid shift after thoracentesis in patients with pleural effusion. METHODS 45 participants (21 with pleural effusion and 24 healthy subjects) were included. Bioelectrical impedance was analyzed for "Transthoracic," "Foot to...

Bioelectrical Impedance versus Body Mass Index for Predicting Body Composition Parameters in Sedentary Job Women

Objective: Nowadays the value of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in the estimation of body adiposity both on a clinical basis in the individual and epidemiologically in large populations is of great interest. The current study determine accuracy of BIA compared with body mass index (BMI) measurement for estimating body composition in a group of normal weight employee women with a sedenta...

The Stayhealthy bioelectrical impedance analyzer predicts body fat in children and adults.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a time-efficient and cost-effective method for estimating body composition. We hypothesized that there would be no significant difference between the Stayhealthy BC1 BIA and the selected reference methods when determining body composition. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to determine the validity of estimating percent body fat (%BF) using the...

Bioelectrical impedance and body composition assessment.

Bioelectrical impedance (BIA) has become increasingly popular in recent years in the assessment of body composition and body fluid status. The level of interest in this technique is related to the following advantages: it is non-invasive, inexpensive, portable and requires minimal subject compliance. However, as with all indirect methods, the ability of BIA to accurately assess body composition...
